Gold Souq Metro Station Overview
Gold Souq is the Green Line station for Deira's old markets. Step out and you are a few minutes from the gold, spice and perfume souqs, the covered trading lanes that gave this part of Dubai its name. It is in Zone 5.
It is a single Green Line stop, so trains run in one of two directions, to Creek or to Etisalat by e&. Union, the interchange with the Red Line, is just two stops away.

Gold Souq Station opening hours and facilities
Gold Souq station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Gold Souq has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
Visit in the late afternoon or early evening. Many shops close for a few hours over the hottest part of the day and reopen later, when the lanes are busier and the gold displays are at their best.
Deira’s gold, spice and perfume souqs
Gold Souq station sits beside one of the world’s best known gold markets, a covered network of lanes packed with jewellery, diamond and precious stone shops. Close by are the spice souq, with open sacks of saffron, dried lemons and frankincense, and the perfume souq, where traders mix oud and attar to order.
The souq is also linked to the Najmat Taiba, a 64kg, 21 carat piece certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest gold ring, made in 2000 (Gulf News). Its display location has moved over the years, so ask locally before making a special trip to see it.
Crossing Dubai Creek by abra
From the souqs it is a short walk to Dubai Creek, the saltwater inlet at the centre of old Dubai’s trade. Small wooden abras carry passengers across to Bur Dubai throughout the day for a low flat fare paid in cash. It is one of the cheapest and most memorable short trips in the city.
Getting to Union and the Red Line
Gold Souq is two stops from Union on the Green Line. Take the train to Etisalat by e&, ride two stops, and change at Union for the Red Line to Downtown, Bur Dubai and the airport. A Silver Nol card fare to Union is AED 3.
Gold is sold by weight at the day's posted rate, so the price of the metal is fixed. Negotiate on the making charge instead, and always ask for the authenticity certificate with your purchase.
Fares from Gold Souq Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
