Al Furjan Metro Station Overview
Al Furjan is a Red Line station on Route 2020, the extension built to carry visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai. It serves the Al Furjan community and the neighbouring districts of Discovery Gardens and The Gardens. It is in Zone 3, the only zone on this branch of the line.
Trains run to Expo 2020 in one direction and back into the city in the other. To reach the older branch that ends at Life Pharmacy, you change at Jebel Ali. The stations on either side are listed further down the page.

Al Furjan is three stops from the old Expo 2020 site, now Expo City Dubai. Pre book entry and attractions to skip the queues on arrival.
Al Furjan Station opening hours and facilities
Al Furjan station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Al Furjan has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
Al Furjan is a large, spread out community, so check which station exit and bus link is closest to your tower or villa before you set off. The walk between the far ends of the area is long in the heat.
Route 2020: the line built for the world’s fair
Al Furjan opened as part of Route 2020, the roughly Dh11 billion, 15km Red Line extension built to link the city to the Expo 2020 Dubai site (Gulf News). The very first passenger trip on the new line ran on New Year’s Day, 1 January 2021, from Jebel Ali to Al Furjan, which was the end of the line during that first phase (Gulf News). The section on to Expo 2020 opened on 1 June 2021, after which the main Red Line route shifted to run from Centrepoint through to Expo 2020 (Railway Gazette). The seven Route 2020 stations were each themed on one of the four elements of nature.
The Al Furjan community
The station serves Al Furjan, a residential community of villas and townhouses, along with Discovery Gardens and The Gardens close by. Before Route 2020 these fast growing districts had no rail link at all. The extension brought the Metro to communities with a combined population of around 270,000 people (Gulf News).
Getting to Expo City, the malls and the city
Expo 2020, now Expo City Dubai, is three stops south for AED 7.50. Heading the other way, Mall of the Emirates is about nine stops for AED 5, and Downtown’s Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall around 13 stops for AED 7.50, changing is not needed for any of these. First and last train times in the city bound direction are still being confirmed, so check the RTA S’hail app for live departures in that direction.
The Route 2020 stations are further apart than the older city stations, so if you are off to Ibn Battuta or Dubai Marina it is usually quicker to ride a stop or two and change than to try to walk it.
Fares from Al Furjan Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
| Destination | Stops | Zones | Fare |
