Al Furjan Metro Station Overview
Al Furjan is a Red Line station on the Route 2020 branch, the extension built to carry visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai. It is station R72 in Zone 3, between Discovery Gardens on the city side and Jumeirah Golf Estates on the Expo side, serving the Al Furjan community and the neighbouring districts of Discovery Gardens and The Gardens.
Since 15 April 2024 RTA has run direct Red Line trains between Centrepoint and Expo 2020 on this branch, so travel from Al Furjan into central Dubai and out to Expo 2020 needs no change of train. The only trip from Al Furjan that still requires a change is onto the other Red Line branch that ends at Life Pharmacy through Ibn Battuta, Energy and Danube, which involves a cross-platform change at National Paints (R38).

Al Furjan Station opening hours and facilities
Al Furjan station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Al Furjan has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
Al Furjan is a large, spread out community, so check which station exit and bus link is closest to your tower or villa before you set off. The walk between the far ends of the area is long in the heat.
How Al Furjan connects to Expo 2020 and central Dubai
Al Furjan sits on the Expo 2020 branch of the Red Line, three stops short of the Expo 2020 terminus and thirteen stops from Downtown Dubai. Since 15 April 2024 RTA has run two direct Red Line services from Centrepoint, announced by Dubai Eye 103.8. One of those services, Track 1, runs Centrepoint to Expo 2020 through this branch, calling at Al Furjan in both directions.
That means travel from Al Furjan works as a single ride in either direction. Southbound trains reach Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park and Expo 2020 without a change. Northbound trains join the main Red Line at National Paints and continue through Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates, Business Bay, Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall, Union, the airport terminals and on to Centrepoint at the top of the line. As of the RTA’s latest published timetable both directions from Al Furjan are now confirmed and appear in the first and last train table above; the reverse-direction gap that affected the Route 2020 branch through 2024 has been resolved.
When you need to change at National Paints
The one Red Line trip from Al Furjan that still needs a change is onto the other branch of the Red Line, the older one that ends at Life Pharmacy through Ibn Battuta, Energy and Danube. Al Furjan is on the Route 2020 branch; those four stations are on a different branch that split off at National Paints (R38, renamed from Jebel Ali in July 2025). Same Red Line, different branch after R38.
For the trip, travel from Al Furjan back towards the city on a Centrepoint-bound service, alight at National Paints, and cross the platform for a Life Pharmacy service. Same paid area, no second Nol tap. That is the only in-branch change on the Red Line today; everything else runs direct.
Al Furjan was part of Route 2020’s first day
Route 2020 opened for commercial service on 1 January 2021 with an initial four stations: the branch junction (then called Jebel Ali, renamed National Paints in 2025), The Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan. Al Furjan was the terminus of that first phase, so the first passenger trip on the new line ended here, reported by Gulf News. The extension had cost around AED 11 billion to build, Gulf News covered the naming and route in its launch coverage.
The remaining three stations, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park and Expo 2020 itself, opened on 1 June 2021 to reach the Expo City gate ahead of the fair, per Railway Gazette. From that day the Route 2020 branch has been the western spur of the Red Line, and Al Furjan sits at its historic and geographic centre: the third stop on the branch, and the end of the very first Route 2020 passenger journey the network ever made.
Check the front destination display on any southbound Red Line train before boarding. An Expo 2020 service stops at Al Furjan; a Life Pharmacy service takes the other branch after National Paints and skips this station entirely.
Fares from Al Furjan Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
