You can check your Nol card balance in a few ways: on the RTA website, in the nol Pay app, at a ticket machine, at a service counter, or by tapping the card at a gate. Most of these need only the Tag ID printed on the back of your card. It is worth a quick check before you ride, because you need at least AED 7.50 to pass the gate, and travelling without enough credit carries a fine.

Check on the RTA website
This is the fastest method and needs no login. Open the RTA website, go to the Nol balance page, type in the Tag ID from the back of your card, and view your balance. It shows your current credit, any pending top-up, and the card's expiry. Because it only needs the Tag ID, you can also check a family member's card if you have their number.
Check in the nol Pay app
The app gives the fullest view, including your recent trips. Download the nol Pay app, sign in, and either read your registered card or scan your physical card against the back of your phone using NFC. As well as the balance, you can see your transaction history, top up, and manage the card. This is the best option for regular riders.
Check at a machine, gate or counter
In any station, tap your card on the reader at a ticket machine and choose the balance option to see your credit on screen, where you can also top up with cash or card. The gates show your balance for a second or two each time you tap in or out, which is the easiest glance of all. For anything more, an RTA service centre can check the card and help with registration, blocking or a balance transfer.
Check by SMS
If you have no internet, you can check by SMS from a UAE mobile number using your Tag ID and an RTA shortcode. The exact number and message format vary between sources, so confirm the current details with the RTA before relying on it. Standard message charges may apply depending on your plan.
Topped up online and the balance has not appeared? It often sits as pending credit until the card chip is updated. Tap the card at any gate or ticket machine, or scan it again in the nol Pay app, and the new balance is written on. It can take up to an hour to show after an online payment.
Tips
Keep the Tag ID from the back of the card saved somewhere, as most checks need it and a lost anonymous card cannot be recovered without it. Keep at least AED 7.50 on the card so the gate lets you through, and top up before payday-week queues build at the machines.
