Do I need to change trains?

Yes, once. Ride the Green Line from Gold Souq to Union, then change to the Red Line for Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall.

Do I pay twice when I change at Union?

No. The change at Union stays inside the paid area, so you do not tap again. Your fare covers the whole journey by the zones it passes through.

How much is the fare?

This journey crosses two zones. A Silver Nol card costs AED 5 and a Gold card AED 10. A Red ticket costs AED 6.

Metro or taxi?

For one or two people, the metro wins on cost and predictability. For a family with luggage, or in a hurry, a taxi is door to door and skips the walk.

Taxi figures are approximate, metered per the Dubai Taxi Company tariff (AED 5 start, AED 2.45 per km). The final fare moves with traffic, vehicle type, surge pricing and any Salik tolls.

From a Dubai resident

The covered walkway from the station to The Dubai Mall runs about 820 metres with travelators, all air-conditioned, so the heat never bites. On a long day out, keep in mind the Silver Nol card fare is capped at AED 14, a long-standing RTA figure, so once you reach it the extra hops cost nothing.

After you arrive at Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall

A climate-controlled walkway of about 820 metres, with travelators, links the station to The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa.

Follow the signs for the Dubai Mall Metro Link walkway.
The walkway is covered and air-conditioned, with travelators most of the way.
Allow 15 to 20 minutes to reach the mall entrance.
For Burj Khalifa and At The Top, continue inside the mall to the Lower Ground floor.
In the peak tourist months from November to March, allow extra time.

Visiting Burj Khalifa after the metro?

The station connects to The Dubai Mall by walkway, but popular At The Top time slots sell out, especially from November to March. Check available tickets before you travel.

Fares in full

This trip crosses 2 zones, so a Silver Nol card costs AED 5, per the RTA Nol fares page. The fare is the same whether you change at Union or elsewhere, because you pay by the zones you cross, not the number of trains or stops.

The Red ticket is a single-use paper ticket with its own higher fare table, set by the RTA (AED 6 for this 2 zones trip, against AED 5 on a Silver Nol card). The blank ticket itself costs AED 2 to buy and holds up to 10 trips. Children under five travel free. People of Determination travel free with a personal Blue Nol card, and students, senior Emiratis and Social Affairs cardholders get 50 per cent off. The Silver Nol daily cap is AED 14.

Timings

Both lines run from 5:00 AM on weekday mornings, with last trains around midnight and later on Friday nights. The Green Line and Red Line keep slightly different first and last train times, so for a very early start or a late night out, check our timings page for today's first and last trains before you travel.
