The Dubai Metro has two lines today, the Red Line and the Green Line, with two more on the way. The map below shows the full network: where each line runs, where they cross, and the zones that set your fare. Use it to plan a route, then read on for how the lines connect and where to change.
The lines at a glance
Two lines run now and carry the whole network. The Blue Line is under construction for 2029, and the Gold Line is planned for 2032. The table below sets them side by side.

How the lines connect
The Red and Green Lines cross at two stations, and a single tap covers a trip that changes between them. Union is the main interchange, in the heart of Deira, and it is the busiest station on the network. BurJuman is the second, for Bur Dubai. At either one you walk from one platform to the other without leaving the paid area, so you are charged one fare by the zones you cross, not two trips.
The Dubai Tram does not share a paid area with the Metro. It meets the Red Line at two points where you tap out, walk across a footbridge, and tap in again: Jumeirah Lakes Towers on the tram links to DMCC on the Metro, and Dubai Marina on the tram links to Sobha Realty. The tram also meets the Palm Monorail at Palm Jumeirah for the Palm and Atlantis.
When the Blue Line opens in 2029 it will add two more interchanges: with the Green Line at Creek, and with the Red Line at Centrepoint. That will give the eastern districts, from Dubai Creek Harbour to Academic City, their first Metro link.
Zones and fares on the map
The network is split into fare zones, and your fare is set by the number of distinct zones your trip crosses, not the distance or the number of stops. A single zone costs AED 3 on a Silver Nol card, two zones AED 5, and three or more AED 7.50, per the RTA Nol fares page. On the map, the zones matter more than the line colours when you are working out a price, because a short trip across a zone boundary can cost more than a long one inside a single zone. How to read the map
Each line is drawn in its own colour, with a dot for every station. The two southern ends of the Red Line split after National Paints, where the line forks to Expo 2020 on one branch and Life Pharmacy on the other. Interchange stations are marked with hollow ringed dots where lines meet. To plan a trip, find your start and end stations, note the line colours and any change at Union or BurJuman, and count the zones you cross for the fare.
