Mall of the Emirates Station opening hours and facilities

Mall of the Emirates station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:

• Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
• Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
• Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
• Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM

Mall of the Emirates has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.

Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.

Snow in the middle of the desert

Mall of the Emirates is best known for Ski Dubai, the indoor ski resort built into the mall. It opened with the mall’s official launch on 30 November 2005 and was the first indoor ski resort in the Middle East (The National). Real snow covers five runs of different gradients, the air is held below freezing all year, and Ski Dubai has repeatedly been named the world’s best indoor ski resort at the World Ski Awards, a fifth consecutive win by 2020 (WAM).

The resort is also home to a colony of King and Gentoo penguins. The first twenty birds were flown almost 5,800 kilometres from a captive breeding programme in San Antonio, Texas, and the enclosure opened to visitors in February 2012 (Gulf News). You can still meet them on a guided encounter inside the snow park.

Twenty years of the mall

Mall of the Emirates first opened its doors on 28 September 2005, with shops opening in stages over the months that followed (The National). It was built for about AED 3 billion by Majid Al Futtaim and covers roughly 255,000 square metres, and it has been expanded several times since. In 2025 the owner announced a further AED 5 billion plan to add shops, restaurants and a cultural centre with a 600-seat theatre over the following two years (The National).

For most travellers it is a destination in its own right, with hundreds of shops, a cinema and an attached hotel, on top of the ski slope. It is a calmer place to start a visit on a weekday morning than at the weekend, when the southbound trains and the mall both fill up from late afternoon.

Getting to the mall, the slopes and the city

The walkway from the concourse leads into the mall on the West End side, close to Ski Dubai and the cinema. From the platforms the rest of the Red Line is a single ride with no change: Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall in Downtown is four stops for AED 5, Airport Terminal 3 is about 16 stops north through the city centre for AED 7.50, and Ibn Battuta, another large mall, is seven stops south for AED 3.

For the Green Line and old Dubai, change at Union or BurJuman. Mall of the Emirates also has its own bus station next to the Metro, with feeder routes across Al Barsha and a seasonal service to Global Village. The station is elevated, with lifts and escalators between street, concourse and platform levels, and the walkway to the mall is step-free the whole way.

Fares from Mall of the Emirates Station

Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.

Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
