Sharaf DG Metro Station Overview
Sharaf DG is a Green Line station in Zone 6, in Bur Dubai. It is station G25, between Al Ghubaiba on the north side and the BurJuman Red and Green Line interchange on the south side.
The station serves the Al Fahidi historic district, Dubai's oldest neighbourhood, and is the easiest Metro entry point to the Bastakiya quarter, the Dubai Museum site and the Al Seef Creek walkway. The street name above the station, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, runs east to BurJuman Mall and west to the Al Ghubaiba bus and abra stations.

A guided walk through the wind-tower lanes is the easiest way to read the buildings around Sharaf DG. Most tours start near Exit 2 and end at the abra dock.
Sharaf DG Station opening hours and facilities
Sharaf DG station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Sharaf DG has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
Exit 2 is the meeting point used by guided walking tours of the Al Fahidi quarter, and the shortest route to the Dubai Museum site. Coming up the steps, the Bastakiya wind-tower courtyards are a five minute walk towards the Creek. Most morning tours start between 8:30 and 9:30 AM, when the lanes are still quiet.
The Metro entry to old Bur Dubai
Sharaf DG is the shortest Metro walk into the Al Fahidi historic district, the cluster of wind-tower courtyards on the Bur Dubai side of the Creek that began as a Persian merchants’ quarter in the late 1800s. The lanes are intentionally narrow and shaded, so the temperature drops a few degrees the moment you turn off Al Fahidi Street, and they stay walkable through the warmer months when the open Creek-side path further along bakes. Dubai Municipality lists the district as a protected heritage zone. The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, on the south edge of the quarter, runs cultural breakfasts and lunches that include a guided walk through the lanes.
The Dubai Museum, inside Al Fahidi Fort at the south end of the district, has been closed for restoration since 2021. The fort, built in 1787, is the oldest surviving building in Dubai and can still be photographed from the gate. The reopening is expected in the first half of 2026, after a long programme of works to keep the structure stable; until then, the surrounding heritage district is open and free to walk through at any hour.
Three Sharaf DGs in three places
The Sharaf DG name has moved across the Metro three times in five years, and the network still reflects that history. The original Sharaf DG was on the Red Line, between Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Internet City. It carried the name until May 2020, then became Mashreq, then InsuranceMarket from September 2024 under a new sponsorship, as covered by Gulf News. The Green Line station you are standing in today, formerly Al Fahidi, took on the Sharaf DG name after the Red Line one let it go. That means a printed map from before 2020 will show Sharaf DG in a completely different place. The station code, G25, has not changed.
The abra walk
The shortest cultural day from Sharaf DG is the one that ends with an abra crossing. Walk five minutes north from Exit 2 to the Creek, pass through the Bastakiya lanes and out at the Al Fahidi gate. From there the Creek-side path runs west to the Bur Dubai Abra Station, where the traditional wooden abras cross to Deira’s Spice Souk and Gold Souk for AED 1 in cash. The crossing takes about four minutes. Walking back along the same path, you can end at Al Ghubaiba instead of Sharaf DG and take a different Green Line train back into the city.
Do not confuse this Sharaf DG with the old Red Line station of the same name. The Red Line one (R33) was renamed Mashreq in May 2020 and is now InsuranceMarket. Today there is only one Sharaf DG, and it is here on the Green Line. If a printed map or older guidebook says Sharaf DG on the Red Line, it means InsuranceMarket.
Fares from Sharaf DG Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
