No. They are two different stations. The Sharaf DG name moved from this Red Line station to the Green Line G25 (formerly Al Fahidi) after the original sponsor agreement ended here in 2020. Today the only Sharaf DG on the Metro is on the Green Line in Bur Dubai.

Is the area around the station walkable?

The south side, into Al Barsha 1, is walkable in the cooler months: dense apartment blocks, restaurants, small grocery shops and a park within fifteen minutes. The north side, towards Sheikh Zayed Road, is harder to walk because the road is a busy highway and most destinations on the north side need a taxi or feeder bus.

Why has the station been renamed so often?

Sponsor agreements. The RTA runs a station-naming programme where banks, insurers and other companies pay for the naming rights. As contracts end or banks rebrand, the station name changes again. Mashreq, the previous sponsor, kept the name from 2020 to 2024.

InsuranceMarket is a Red Line station in Zone 2, in Al Barsha. It is station R33, one stop east of Mall of the Emirates and one stop west of Internet City.

The station serves the Al Barsha 1 residential cluster on the south side of Sheikh Zayed Road, with apartment blocks, mid-range hotels and the South Asian food cluster along Al Barsha 1's interior streets. It is the most-renamed station on the network: it has carried three sponsor names in five years, and travellers using older signs or guidebooks often arrive expecting one of the previous names.

InsuranceMarket station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:

InsuranceMarket has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.

Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.

From a Dubai resident

Do not confuse this station with the Green Line Sharaf DG (G25) in Bur Dubai. Until 2020 the Red Line station here was called Sharaf DG; the sponsor name has since moved to the Green Line station while the Red Line station went through Mashreq and is now InsuranceMarket. The station code (R33) does not change with the sponsor, so it is the safest reference if a map is out of date.

A station with three names in five years

The Red Line opened on 9 September 2009 with this station carrying the name Sharaf DG. It held that name until May 2020, when the sponsor agreement ended and Mashreq took over the naming rights. The Mashreq period ran from 2020 until September 2024, when the bank’s rebrand and the next round of station-naming auctions saw InsuranceMarket take the name, as reported by Gulf News at the time. The station code has been R33 through all three names, and is the most reliable reference if you find a printed map or older guidebook that uses one of the previous names.

The Sharaf DG name itself did not disappear: it transferred to the Green Line station that had been Al Fahidi, which is the only Sharaf DG on the Metro today. Travellers who arrive here looking for the historic Al Fahidi quarter are at the wrong station; that is on the Green Line G25, on the other side of the city.

Al Barsha 1, the south-side neighbourhood

The walkable area around this station is Al Barsha 1, the residential cluster south of Sheikh Zayed Road, with apartment blocks running back from the highway to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. The cluster has a dense low-cost South Asian and Filipino restaurant scene along Sheikh Sayed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street and the parallel internal lanes, with karak cafes that open late and small bakeries that open early. Al Barsha Pond Park, a free public park with a running track and outdoor gym equipment, is a fifteen minute walk south through the cluster and one of the busiest community parks in the city for evening exercise.

The Mall of the Emirates pairing

The single-stop trip west to Mall of the Emirates is the station’s most-used connection. The mall is the area’s main shopping anchor and the closest Metro stop to Ski Dubai. For visitors based in Al Barsha hotels, the round trip into the mall is ten minutes total, ten times cheaper than a taxi at peak. Going the other way, one stop east to Internet City opens up the office cluster and the Al Sufouh Beach side of the coast.

Al Barsha 1, behind the station, has one of the city's denser low-cost South Asian and Filipino restaurant clusters, with several long-standing karak cafes that open late. The Al Barsha Pond Park, a fifteen minute walk south through the cluster, has a running track and free outdoor exercise equipment, busy from early morning and after sunset.

Fares from InsuranceMarket Station

Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.

Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
