The Green Line runs through old Dubai, linking Deira and Bur Dubai along the route of Dubai Creek. It has 20 stations from Etisalat by e& in the north to Creek in the south, and it opened on 9 September 2011. It is the line for the souks, the Creek and the abra crossings, and it meets the Red Line at Union and BurJuman.

Overview

The Green Line is the older-Dubai line. It loops through Deira and Bur Dubai close to the Creek, so it reaches the gold and spice souks, the Shindagha museums and the abra stations that the Red Line does not. It is shorter and busier in feel than the Red Line, with tight, walkable stops in dense neighbourhoods. Most riders use it alongside the Red Line, changing at Union or BurJuman, since the two lines share those stations and a single fare covers the change.

Main stations on the Green Line and what is at each

Etisalat by e& (G11) is the northern end, with park and ride in Al Qusais. Dubai Airport Free Zone (G13) sits by DAFZA near the airport. Union (G20) is the interchange to the Red Line and one of the busiest stations, next to Al Ghurair Centre and the Creek. Baniyas Square (G21) serves central Deira and the Naif souk. Gold Souq (G22) is the stop for the gold and spice markets, also spelled Gold Souk. Al Ghubaiba (G24) opens onto Bur Dubai, the abra station and the Al Shindagha Museum, with bus and marine links. Sharaf DG (G25) reaches the Dubai Museum, Al Fahidi and Al Seef. BurJuman (G26) is the second Red Line interchange. Dubai Healthcare City (G28) serves DHCC and Wafi, and Creek (G30) is the southern end, where the Blue Line will connect from 2029.

Fares and zones on the Green Line

Fares depend on the zones your trip crosses, not the number of stations. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more, per the RTA Nol fares page. The Green Line is simpler than the Red Line on zones: the northern stretch from Etisalat by e& down to Al Ras sits in Zone 5, and Al Ghubaiba and the southern stops through to Creek sit in Zone 6. So most trips along the line are one or two zones, AED 3 or AED 5. A change to the Red Line at Union or BurJuman is charged as one fare by the zones crossed, not as two trips. Gold Class is double, and a personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver.

Green Line timings detail

Stations open at 05:00 from Monday to Saturday, with last trains around midnight, running until 01:00 on Friday nights. Sunday opens later, at 08:00. First trains leave the ends close to opening: about 05:01 from Etisalat by e& heading south and about 05:03 from Creek heading north. Last trains run until roughly half past midnight from both ends on most nights. Trains come every few minutes at peak times and stop 20 to 30 seconds at each station. From a Dubai resident

For the gold and spice souks, get off at Gold Souq (G22), not Al Ras, even though both are close. Gold Souq drops you nearer the covered market entrances. For the abra across the Creek to Bur Dubai, use Al Ghubaiba (G24), which sits right by the marine station.

Future plans and extensions

The Blue Line will connect to the Green Line at Creek when it opens on 9 September 2029, giving the southern end a direct route east through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and on to Academic City, per Khaleej Times. The wider project will grow the Metro and Tram network from about 101 km to 131 km by 2029, according to Gulf News. The separately announced Gold Line, planned for 2032, is reported to meet the Green Line at Al Ghubaiba.

Tips for riders

The Green Line is the better choice for the old city: souks, museums and the Creek all sit on or near it. Change at Union for the airport and Downtown, or at BurJuman for the Red Line south. Several Green Line stops are a short walk from the Creek, so it pairs well with an abra ride for a cheap loop around old Dubai. Trains and platforms here run narrower and fill fast at peak times near Union and the souks, so allow a few extra minutes then.
