Dubai Metro Blue Line: route, stations and opening

The Blue Line is the third Dubai Metro line, under construction now and planned to open on 9 September 2029, the 20th anniversary of the Metro. It will run about 30 km with 14 stations across two branches that join at International City 1, connecting the Green Line at Creek and the Red Line at Centrepoint. It is built to serve the eastern districts that have no Metro today, from Dubai Creek Harbour to Academic City.

Overview

The Blue Line is a Y-shaped line, not a single end-to-end route. One branch starts at Creek on the Green Line and runs about 21 km southeast through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor to International City. The other branch starts at Centrepoint on the Red Line and runs about 9 km through Mirdif and Al Warqa. The two branches meet at International City 1, then continue to Dubai Silicon Oasis and Academic City. The design lets riders move between the Red and Green Lines and reach the eastern growth areas without a separate shuttle, per Gulf Business.

Main stations on the Blue Line and what is at each

Creek is the Green Line interchange and the start of the longer branch, at Al Jaddaf. Dubai Festival City serves the mall and the surrounding district. Dubai Creek Harbour, the Emaar Properties station, is set to be the world's tallest metro station at about 74 metres, sitting on a viaduct over the Creek. Ras Al Khor links the industrial and residential areas nearby. International City 1, 2 and 3 serve the dense residential district and Dragon Mart, with International City 1 planned as the largest underground interchange on the network. Dubai Silicon Oasis serves the technology district, and Academic City sits at the far end by the universities. On the second branch, Centrepoint is the Red Line interchange, with Mirdif and Al Warqa between there and International City 1, per the RTA project release.

Fares and zones on the Blue Line

The Blue Line will use the same Nol card and zone-based fares as the rest of the Metro, so a trip will be charged by the zones it crosses, not the number of stations, in line with the RTA Nol fares page. The exact zones for the new stations have not been published yet, since the line is not open, so the fare for a given trip cannot be confirmed at this stage. Changing to the Red Line at Centrepoint or the Green Line at Creek will be charged as a single fare by total zones, the same as changes at Union or BurJuman today.

Blue Line timings detail

The Blue Line is not in service, so there are no train times yet. When it opens in 2029 it is expected to run the same hours as the Red and Green Lines: from 05:00 on weekday mornings, later closing on Friday nights, and a later start on Sunday. Construction is reported to be on schedule, with about 30 per cent completion targeted by the end of 2026 and the opening fixed for 9 September 2029, per Khaleej Times.

Future plans and extensions

The Blue Line is itself the next big extension of the network, taking the combined Metro and Tram from about 101 km to 131 km by 2029, per Gulf News. The RTA has said the line is built to serve close to one million residents in nine districts by 2040. Beyond the Blue Line, the separately announced Gold Line is planned for 2032, which would add a further fully underground line across the city.

Tips for riders

There is nothing to ride yet, so treat this as planning information. If you live or are buying in Dubai Creek Harbour, International City, Mirdif, Al Warqa, Silicon Oasis or Academic City, the Blue Line is the route to watch, as those areas have no Metro today.
