Metro or taxi?

For one or two people, the Metro wins on cost and predictability. For a family with luggage, or in a hurry, a taxi is door to door and skips the walk.

OptionCostTimeBest for
MetroAED 7.5 (Silver Nol)~55 minCheapest, no traffic
TaxiAED 87 to 12838 to 56 minDoor to door, luggage, families
Taxi figures are an estimate, based on the RTA street-hail meter (about AED 5 to start, around AED 2 per kilometre, AED 12 minimum) as reported by Gulf News. The final fare moves with traffic, the time of day, app pricing and any Salik tolls.
From a Dubai resident

This is one of the longer single-tap trips on the network, from the Route 2020 branch tail all the way to central Deira. The Union interchange is cross-platform on the same level, no second tap. Board at the back of the northbound train at DIP to be closest to the cross-platform, and pick a right-hand seat for the elevated view across Sheikh Zayed Road most of the way.

After you arrive at Salah Al Din

Salah Al Din station sits on Salah Al Din Road in central Deira, one stop north of Union, in the mid-city commercial strip of jewellery and electronics shops.

About this route

Do I need to change trains between Dubai Investment Park and Salah Al Din?

Yes, once. Take the Red Line from DIP (R74) north 22 stops to Union (R18), then change across the platform to the Green Line towards Etisalat by e& and ride one stop to Salah Al Din (G19). The change is on the same level, no second Nol card tap.

How much is the fare from Dubai Investment Park to Salah Al Din?

The trip crosses the maximum three fare zones, so the fare lands in the top Nol band. On a Silver Nol card it is AED 7.50, on a Gold Nol card AED 15, on a Blue personal card AED 7.50, and on a single-use Red ticket AED 8.50 plus AED 2 to buy the ticket itself.

How long does the trip take?

About 55 minutes from platform to platform, including the cross-platform change at Union and the short waits between stations. It is one of the longer single-tap trips on the network.

Is the change at Union easy?

Yes. Union is the busiest interchange on the network and the platforms are aligned so the change between Red and Green is across the platform on the same level. No second tap, no second fare.

Can I do this trip with luggage?

Yes. DIP and Union are fully step-free, and Salah Al Din has lifts to and from the platform. The Red and Green Line trains have wide doors. Given the length of the trip, board at the ends of the platforms for easier boarding at both ends.

Is it cheaper to take a taxi?

No, much cheaper on the Metro. A taxi from DIP to Salah Al Din is around AED 87 to 128 and 38 to 56 minutes depending on traffic, against AED 7.50 on the Metro. The Metro is also often faster than the taxi on this axis at peak.

When is the route busiest?

Weekday morning peak northbound as commuters head from DIP residential clusters into Deira for work. Weekend evenings are calmer.

What time does the last train run from Dubai Investment Park?

The Route 2020 branch closes earlier than the Red Line trunk. The last northbound train from DIP towards Centrepoint runs about 11:54 PM Sunday to Thursday and 11:55 PM Thursday to Friday. After that, a taxi is the only option.
