Metro or taxi?

For one or two people, the Metro wins on cost and predictability. For a family with luggage, or in a hurry, a taxi is door to door and skips the walk.

OptionCostTimeBest for
MetroAED 5 (Silver Nol)~15 minCheapest, no traffic
TaxiAED 32 to 4714 to 21 minDoor to door, luggage, families
Taxi figures are an estimate, based on the RTA street-hail meter (about AED 5 to start, around AED 2 per kilometre, AED 12 minimum) as reported by Gulf News. The final fare moves with traffic, the time of day, app pricing and any Salik tolls.
From a Dubai resident

Max is the Dubai Frame stop and ONPASSIVE serves Alserkal Avenue, so this six-stop hop links two of the most-photographed short trips in the city. Both stations sit on Sheikh Zayed Road, so the train view is southbound skyline all the way. Boarding at the back of the southbound platform at Max puts you closest to the ONPASSIVE exit on arrival.

After you arrive at ONPASSIVE

ONPASSIVE station serves the Al Quoz creative quarter, with Alserkal Avenue about 3 km south by feeder bus or taxi and Al Safa Park across Sheikh Zayed Road via the station footbridge.

For more on the area around ONPASSIVE, what is close by and worth a stop, see the ONPASSIVE station guide.

About this route

Do I need to change trains between Max and ONPASSIVE?

No. The Red Line runs straight from Max (R21) six stops south to ONPASSIVE (R29). One train, no platform change.

How much is the fare from Max to ONPASSIVE?

The trip crosses two zones (Max is Zone 6, ONPASSIVE is Zone 2). On a Silver Nol card it is AED 5, on a Gold Nol card AED 10, on a Blue personal card AED 5, and on a single-use Red ticket AED 6 plus AED 2 to buy the ticket itself.

How long does the trip take?

About 15 minutes from platform to platform. Alserkal Avenue is another seven minute taxi ride from ONPASSIVE, and Al Safa Park is a short walk via the station footbridge.

Can I get to the Dubai Frame from here?

Yes, at the Max end. The Dubai Frame is a fifteen-minute walk through Za'abeel Park from Max station (Gate 2). The Frame is on the Max side, not the ONPASSIVE side, so plan the visit at the Max end of the trip.

Can I do this trip with luggage?

Yes. Both stations have lifts to and from the platforms and the Red Line trains have wide doors. Step-free throughout.

Is it cheaper to take a taxi?

The Metro at AED 5 is much cheaper than a taxi at AED 32 to 47 for fourteen to twenty-one minutes. The taxi is door to door, but the Metro saves about 85 per cent of the fare.

When is the route busiest?

Late afternoon and evening on weekdays when the Trade Centre and DIFC crowds head south. Weekend afternoons pick up for Alserkal Avenue gallery-goers, especially Saturday.

What time does the last train run from Max?

The last southbound train from Max towards Expo 2020 runs about 11:42 PM Sunday to Wednesday, just past midnight on Friday. After the branch closes, taxis at the station rank are the way south.
