Metro or taxi?

For one or two people, the Metro wins on cost and predictability. For a family with luggage, or in a hurry, a taxi is door to door and skips the walk.

OptionCostTimeBest for
MetroAED 3 (Silver Nol)~5 minCheapest, no traffic
TaxiAED 12 to 184 to 6 minDoor to door, luggage, families
Taxi figures are an estimate, based on the RTA street-hail meter (about AED 5 to start, around AED 2 per kilometre, AED 12 minimum) as reported by Gulf News. The final fare moves with traffic, the time of day, app pricing and any Salik tolls.
From a Dubai resident

This is the shortest Metro hop on the network at one stop, AED 3 on a Silver Nol card. At peak hour the train side fills up but the bottleneck is usually the walkway into the mall, not the platform. The covered JW Marriott Marquis to Souk Al Bahar skybridge is a fifteen minute walk and stays open whenever the towers are open, often faster than the Metro at 6 PM.

After you arrive at Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall

A covered, air-conditioned walkway with travelators links the station to The Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, around 820 metres in all.

About this route

Do I need to change trains between Business Bay and Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall?

No. The Red Line runs straight from Business Bay (R26) one stop north to Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall (R25). One train, one stop, no platform change.

How much is the fare from Business Bay to Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall?

The trip stays inside one fare zone (Zone 6). On a Silver Nol card it is AED 3, on a Gold Nol card AED 6, on a Blue personal card AED 3, and on a single-use Red ticket AED 4 plus AED 2 to buy the ticket itself.

How long does the trip take?

About 5 minutes from platform to platform, including the wait. The walkway from the station to The Dubai Mall adds another 15 to 20 minutes, so the door-to-door time is usually 20 to 25 minutes.

Is it faster to walk from Business Bay to Burj Khalifa?

At peak hour, the air-conditioned skybridge from the JW Marriott Marquis side into Downtown takes about 15 minutes and avoids the walkway crush at the station end. Off-peak the Metro is usually faster overall, but it is close.

Can I do this trip with luggage?

Yes. Business Bay has lifts to and from the platform, and Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall has lifts to the walkway level. The Red Line trains have wide doors. The walkway has travelators most of the way.

When is the route busiest?

Late afternoon and early evening on weekends, when day-trippers and tourists overlap. Office-hour weekdays are quieter on this single-stop hop, since both stations serve their own residential and office clusters.

Is it cheaper to take a taxi?

A taxi from Business Bay to Burj Khalifa is around AED 12 to 18 and 4 to 6 minutes off-peak. The Metro is still cheaper at AED 3, but a taxi can be faster door-to-door at peak when the walkway into the mall is at capacity.

The last northbound train from Business Bay towards Centrepoint runs about 12:32 AM Sunday to Wednesday, 12:31 AM Thursday to Friday, and 12:28 AM Saturday. The southbound trains to Expo 2020 and Life Pharmacy close earlier, around 11:28 PM.
